FAQ

Epoxy Flooring Questions Answered

Honest answers to the most common questions about epoxy flooring — installation, durability, warranties, and what to expect working with FEK Epoxy.

How long does epoxy flooring take to install?

Most residential garage installations complete in 1–2 days. The full process involves surface prep (grinding, crack repair), moisture testing, primer application, epoxy or polyaspartic coating, and topcoat. Full cure and vehicle-ready status is typically 48–72 hours. We'll give you a clear project timeline at quote time based on your specific conditions.

When can I drive or park on the floor?

Light foot traffic is usually fine within 24 hours. Vehicle traffic — garage or commercial — is typically cleared at 48–72 hours depending on the system, temperature, and humidity during installation. We'll confirm your specific cure window when we know the system being installed and the weather conditions at the time.

Do you offer warranties?

Yes. Every FEK Epoxy installation includes a 5-year workmanship warranty. This covers adhesion, coating integrity, and installation quality — not damage from chemical spills, heavy impact, or misuse. This is a real warranty backed by real accountability, not a product-only guarantee.

What about moisture and humidity?

We moisture-test every slab before we coat. For basements and below-grade installations where moisture vapor drive is a concern, we specify moisture-tolerant primer systems. If your slab has excess moisture that would cause adhesion problems, we'll tell you upfront — not after the install — and recommend the right system to handle it.

Can you fix cracks or damaged concrete first?

Absolutely. Crack repair, spall patching, and surface leveling are part of our standard prep process on every project. We'll assess every crack during the consultation and include all necessary repairs in your quote. We don't coat over problems — we fix them first so the coating bonds properly and lasts.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Saint Augustine, Ponte Vedra, Jacksonville, and the broader St. Johns County area, plus Clay County and Flagler County. For projects outside this region, contact us — we'll let you know if we can make it work or point you to someone we trust if we can't.

What's the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?

Standard epoxy coatings are durable and cost-effective for most garage applications. Polyaspartic coatings offer faster cure times, better UV stability (won't yellow in sunlight), and superior chemical resistance — making them the preferred choice for outdoor/patio applications and high-end garage projects. Polyaspartic costs more but performs better in demanding conditions. We'll recommend the right system for your specific use case.

Will hot tires peel the coating off?

On a properly prepped surface with the right primer system, hot-tire transfer is not an issue. Cheap or improperly installed epoxy fails here because the surface wasn't ground correctly or the wrong primer was used. We use primer systems specifically formulated to resist hot-tire adhesion — and we back that with our workmanship warranty.

How do I maintain an epoxy floor?

Epoxy floors are very low maintenance. Regular sweeping or dust-mopping is enough for most residential use. For garages, occasional pressure washing keeps it looking new. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners — mild soap and water is all you need. We provide full care instructions at project completion and the floor will hold up well to normal residential use for years.

Do I need to move my car out during installation?

Yes — you'll need to keep vehicles off the floor for the full installation and cure period, typically 2–4 days. We always plan around this and coordinate timing with you before we start so you can make arrangements. Most homeowners plan around a long weekend or a week when they can manage without garage parking.

How much does epoxy flooring cost?

Typical garage floor coating runs $6–$14 per square foot depending on the system chosen. A standard 2-car garage (400–600 sqft) is typically $3,200–$7,200 installed. Basement and outdoor projects are priced higher due to additional prep requirements and UV-stable materials. Visit our pricing page for detailed ranges, or request a quote for an exact number.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. FEK Epoxy is a fully licensed and insured contractor serving the Northeast Florida market. We carry comprehensive general liability insurance. Our crews are W-2 employees — not subcontractors — which means consistent training and direct accountability on every project.
